"There are, in fact, only two categories of doctors and scientists who are not opposed to vivisection: those who don't know enough about it, and those who make money from it."
Dr Werner Hartinger, a German surgeon (1986)
CAHR was formed to educate, inform and promote human-based health research and other alternatives to animal experimentation and testing. We think that human studies are among the best avenues to better understand and treat human diseases.
We also believe that human-based research will contribute to improve the safety of pharmaceuticals and medical products.
Given the questionable scientific value of animal tests and the ethical issues that animal experimentation continues to raise, efforts to reduce animal testing should be the norm rather than the exception.
However, in our view, the government-industry complex is not engaging sufficient ressources and energy on this issue, which is evidence of its attachment to animal tests, mainly for economic and political reasons.
