Using the Web of Science on the net, one can find how many times over the years specific research papers have been cited by subsequent scientists; the more citations a paper has, the more influential it is. Many papers, however, receive few or no citations, some of them describing experiments, which involved pain and often death to hundreds of animals. To prevent such suffering, where possible experiments, which use many animals and involve invasive procedures should not be done. Of course, it is impossible to know the results of an experiment before it is carried out, but there are many ways in which suffering can be reduced which I list in my papers. Regrettably, many or most scientists don't much care if animals are hurt and killed unnecessarily. Animal research is monitored by Animal Care Committees in Canada, but many poorly-cited experiments/ papers are carried out/ produced anyway, which undermines one's confidence in their standards. A huge problem is making scientists aware that irresponsible animal research is unacceptable, not only because of the harm done to animals, but because it wastes scarce money and resources. It might be possible to stop such practice by making it widely known to laypeople that hospitals and other institutions which receive huge amounts of money from public taxes and from government grants allow such wasteful research continue. But how to do this?
